Jason Mackenzie the father of 2 beautiful girls.  His first wife committed suicide after a tragic struggle with bipolar disorder.   Jason drank a hell of a lot for a long time and did all the stupid stuff that drunks do.  Puked all over.  Pissed all over. He drove drunk, said stupid things and thought he was smart while I was saying them.  He felt guilty & felt like shit.  He made choices that destroyed his ability to reach my potential. Then he made them again.  And again.  Done with all that now,  Jason has started a completely new journey. He believes with all his heart that sharing it with you will help you.  He's really not a monk at all.  But he's closer to finding inner peace and celebrating each moment.

In this episode of the Better Human Show, I go solo.  I share stories about what inspired the show, and what to expect in future shows.  I share trials, trouble, addictions & recovery, and the path that I've walked and lived to arrive here with you today.  I do my best bravely share my unfiltered, unvarnished story.  Not all of it is pretty, and hopefully you can learn from the stories I share.

A central theme is congruent living; or living in alignment with values.  I talk about how it felt to live a life where I was disconnected with my values, and how I subsequently found myself obese, alone and addicted, and how I turned it around to get healthy and fit again.

In this episode of the Better Human Show, I talk with Boysen Hodgson, communications director of the Mankind Project.  A lot of us have heard of the Mankind Project, but don’t really know what they do besides share some heartwarming & feel good content on social media, where they have about a million fans on Facebook. We talk about mythopoetic rituals and how to develop deeper, more meaningful relationships.

The ManKind Project flies in the face of rigid stereotypes about the "Sensitive New Age Man" AND the "Macho Man". The mankind projects asks men to go right up to the edge - and beyond - in a culture that seems to be comfortable with mediocrity and passivity from men. They ask men to stop living a vicarious adventure through their TV's and step into a real time adventure to win back their passion for life. They ask men to confront the real issues, to get 100% honest about who they are. Some men have a really hard time doing that. Many did too, but  took the risk anyway.  And we’ll talk about how life changes for men who begin to approach life differently after experiencing the New Warrior Training Adventure.

This conversation goes deep, and caused me to re-evaluate some long held beliefs.

A full & healthy life looks at more than just nutrition, fitness, and relationships. Personal development is also about finding a higher purpose and calling.  Giving Back.  We like to think that our charitable efforts mean something; but surprisingly, some things we do in order to make the world a better place, can acutally cause harm for the beneficiaries they're intended to help.  Join The Better Human Show host David Rachford as he talks with Will MacAskill, PhD of Oxford University as they talk about "Effective Altruism," "Fair Trade" and how to make the most impact to make the world a better place, save lives and leave a legacy with your time and money.
